Good Hoots: Namaste Ultra Sour
Good Hoots is the section of our Blog where we take a closer look at some of our most requested and top selling cannabis products here at Good Roots.
"Ultra Sour, Ultra Powerful" is how Namaste describe their very popular sativa strain, Ultra Sour, and we would have to agree! Consistently one of our fasting moving buds here at Good Roots, this energetic & cerebrally stimulating tasty treat is rather unique, and offers flavours & effects not quite like any other.
Born out of some rather uninteresting business takeovers that we won't bore you with, Zenabis Cannabis came to life in October 2018 and hit the ground running with the legalization of marijuana here in Canada. Bearing the brands Blazery, Re-Up, & Namaste, Zenabis runs multiple grow facilities throughout the country with current indoor square footage in the neighbourhood of 660,000 which will soon be increased by 2.1 million more square feet of greenhouse space. That's room for a LOT of plants!
With a fairly large portfolio of offerings including vapes, soft-gels, & prerolls along with flower strains like MK Ultra, Wappa, Sensi Star, & Shishkaberry, Namaste has a large presence here in Canada that is sure to grow and we certainly look forward to more strains like Ultra Sour!
Originally created in Amsterdam by THSeeds, the 25 year multi-award winning Cannabis House, Ultra Sour comes to us via a genetic crossing of the heavily-regarded MK Ultra and the powerful East Coast Sour Diesel, an offshoot of the original Sour Diesel... hence the name Ultra Sour.
This crossing of a sativa with an indica technically leaves us with this (in this case) sativa-dominant hybrid which typically gets labelled just as a sativa. Complicated? Yes. Confusing? Yes. But that's a conversation for another day.
Ultra Sour is a bit of a rare find. There just aren't many producers who grow this strain as apparently the genetics are difficult to come by. It's a shame really, because it would be interesting to see what other producers could do with this one as none of Namaste's other strains typically get close to this ones high numbers.
This weed certainly has a tart, citrus aroma and flavour that you will notice right away. The Sour Diesel really shows its influence and the mix of gasoline and sour candy is a refreshing change from the sea of pine & earthy aromas and profiles which seem to dominate the available legal choices in Canada right now.
It is the terpenes Terpinolene and Limonene that team up to provide the tart and citrus flavours which really make this strain shine, Limonene also being found in the rind, or peel, of citrus fruits. Terpinolene, like Limonene, also has citrus notes, but along with this has what users refer to as a "fresh" sensation or smell (amongst others, Terpinolene is weird like that), which is why this terpene is often added to fancy soaps and perfumes, and it really comes through with the Ultra Sour.
Be warned, this is a powerful strain, but one that connoisseurs love. This one gets right up in your head, so if you don't like that sort of high you may want to give this one a miss. However, if that sounds like your thing... you may have found yourself a new favourite right here.
We see Ultra Sour always come in between 20-24%, though the expected range Namaste gives is 18-25%. Either way, this one is usually some top bud.
