Good Hoots: Marley Natural Marley Green

Good Hoots is the section of our Blog where we take a closer look at some of our most requested and top selling cannabis products here at Good Roots.

Marley Natural Marley Green is a bit of a mouthful. Especially when considering Canadian Cannabis laws against using celebrity names for cannabis products, but it looks like two wrongs do make a right and Marley Natural has (somehow) gotten the go ahead to use the name of the granddaddy of all stoner celebrities, Mr. Bob Marley. Let's see if the 'erb lives up to the legend...

One of many brand names under the High Park banner (which is itself nested under the Tilray banner), Marley Natural is a premium label spun off from a deal between Marley's family and Tilray's original parent company, Privateer Holdings, based out of Seattle down in the states.

You've likely already come across High Park's other brand offerings which includes Canaca, The Batch, Goodship, Chowie Wowie, Irisa, Grail... and the list goes on.

The Marley brand currently has vapes, pre-rolls, and dried bud options on the legal Canadian market, with the pre-rolls being among some of our most requested here at the dispensary. All their strains are marketed under different colour names such as Marley Red, Marley Black, and today's bud of choice, Marley Green.

Marley Green

This flower may be being marketed as Marley Green, but in fact, the colour could and perhaps should be blue as this strain is much better known as Blue Dream.

Namaste Ultra Sour

Blue Dream is one of the mainstays of any West Coast weed menu, and has been for decades. Created in California in the 1970's by legendary breeder DJ Short, Blue Dream is a cross between multiple award-winner (and also DJ Short grown) Blueberry, along with the original Haze sativa strain.

With a reputation of being 'easy', both in terms of growing and smoking, Blue Dream quickly became popular and has stayed as such since its creation. Compared to most strains, Blue Dream, while being very THC dominant, does contain elevated levels of both CBD & CBN, which would explain its 'easy to smoke' reputation as these cannabinoids can help the body process the blast of THC that Blue Dream also gives.

Blue Dream likely gets its name from the deep greenish-blue hues of its long, loose buds. While you smoke, expect flavours of sweet blueberry which linger on your tongue. However, the 'dream' part of the name may be a bit of a misnomer as this one typically won't send you off to dreamland. A cerebrally calming and creative euphoria will likely wash over you post-toke, making this a great social smoke that won't put you down.

Blue Dream is genetically terpene-rich and has strong levels of the commonly found Pinene, Myrcene, & Caryophyllene, as well as the less common Terpinolene.

In short, if you enjoy the overall effects of sativas but sometimes deal with the anxiety or paranoia they can also deliver, Blue Dream or Marley Green is a great option. It energizes and gets the mind going, but in a relaxed, gentle way. Think of it as treating you more like Three Little Birds than as a Buffalo Soldier. You'll be Jammin' in no time.
